Home - Jesse Jorgensen

When I worked at camp, there were a lot of mornings where the walk to the barn from our bunkhouse was done in the pitch black. 4 AM and you're booking it up the hill to the barn up a path through the woods, with roots menacingly jumping up out of the ground to trip you. The first month of camp, it was kinda light at the time you're heading for the barn... but by the end of the summer. Say goodbye to that light, it was dark. Like dark dark. You better have learned the path or your were going to land flat on your face. Or... you had to carry a flashlight. The kind of dark where you can't see your own feet. And even with a flashlight you might wonder what was four feet in front of you because you definitely couldn't see that far.

If' I'm honest, I've had a lot of times like that in my life, too. Where home feels like miles away, and where I don't feel like I can see my own feet. That darkness can crush in from all sides and make you feel trapped, like you have no idea where you're going, and like with every step you are going to fall flat on your face.

So the question is, what do you do in those times? What do you do with the insane desire to be home... truly home?

We were not made for this world - we were made for His kingdom. And yet, here, in this place so far from home we can find God's light. He has searched us, knows us, made us. Our home truly is with Him - the one who knows us, who can see clearly in the dark. Who sees our every outline and movement. Who can lead us on the path of His true life - the true direction of home.

Come and break through this darkness
May it be shot through with light
Lord I want to come home now
I want to be by Your side

Pick up God's flashlight. And know that even though we can't see outside of the beam of light He can. And with Him you are home.

As Jesse says: "As followers of Jesus we have a constant sense of not being home yet. And yet we have the very presence of God living in us and with us at all times. So we live in this paradox of longing for home and yet being completely at home in the presence of God."

Find your home, find your rest, in the presence of God. He will always be our home.

"Lord, through all the generations you have been our home!" - Psalm 90:1

It's been so dark
I can barely see your lamp upon my feet
I can barely see your lamp upon my feet
I've come so far
But rest is still a thousand miles away
Rest seems like a thousand miles away

You have always been my home
You have always been my home

You've searched my heart
You've tested me and know my every thought
You've tested me and know my every thought
So change my ways
And lead me on the path of Your true life
Lead me on the path of Your true life

You have always been my home
You have always been my home

You have always been my home
You have always been my home

Come and break through this darkness
May it be shot through with light
Lord I want to come home now
I want to be by Your side

Break through this darkness
May it be shot through with light
Lord I want to come home now
I want to be by Your side

Break through this darkness
May it be shot through with light
Lord we want to come home now
We want to be by Your side

You have always been our home
You have always been our home

You have always been our home
You will always be our home
You will always be our home

You will always be our home
